the most likely and scariest thing I see is an attack on Iran, reducing oil supplies by 50%+ literally over night.

All Hell is going to break loose from that, riots, food shortages, etc

the other likely event in the next 10 years is a currency collapse, same things: riots, etc

both are VERY LIKELY

I am pretty well prepared, always more to do though.

I've got guns. I've got ammo. I've got a few PMs. I think my main fear would be a food shortage. Of course, I could always hunt for some food. But I suspect many others would be doing the same as well. Perhaps I'll have to make a trip to the local zoo :haha: . I have a few MREs, but not enough to last me much more than 2 weeks.

you might look into the mountain house food deals, they last like 40+ years.

you can get about 3 month supply for around $800.00 (old price)

they do sales every now and then, Food, Water, Shelter, etc

Big berkey water filter is a MUST also, I got that covered

That electricity to my television will be cut off and I won't have anybody to tell me what to fear. I'm trembling just thinking about it. No, I'm going to fight the mob at Best Buy this afternoon and buy a battery-operated tee-vee.

I am serious about the Iran thing and food shortages, I really see a gas crisis unlike anything we have ever seen before.

if you remember at the end of WW2 Germany was low on fuel, and entering currency collapse, the folks who survived it were forced back to living like they were in the stone age, bartering was the only currency, no food, no water, limited shelter, etc

Attacking Iran would put us in a similar state in a hurry I am afraid.

Finally got around to buying Matthew Bracken's books, "Enemies, foreign and Domestic", and "Domestic Enemies". I will finish the first book today. Wow, what a great read, and a scary story! Highly recommended reading for people reading this thread, as well as ALL GIM'ers!

My worst fear is the paranoid gubbermint getting so out of line the whole thing turns violent. Civil war is the most horrible calamity that can befall a people.

And civil wars end up with a warlord on top most of the time after both sides, or many sides kill a lot of women and children caught in the crossfire one way and another.

Peaceful change even worked vs the old USSR with Solidarity in Poland and vs very entrenched elite in Bolivia. Then you end up without all the brother killing brother and better government.

After all, that 19 year old who signed up because he had no job and wanted to go to college is not really anyone's enemy. He probably genuinely wants to serve his country and the martial law stuff, if pressed upon him, will distress him. We have to remember that we need changed thinking and hearts, not to have to hurt and kill the ones who have not figured it out yet.

It takes a long time, but the mess during Katrina woke a lot of people up. And more are getting off the propaganda wagon every day.

I hope Katrina made more people store some food and medicine. It seems to have among people I know.

I think Mt House is pretty bad. About like not so hot canned. But compared to going hungry or eating beans every meal it will be a nice change of pace. Sort of survival fast food. And it only needs water if cooking is a problem, and it keeps a long time.

Some long storage alfalfa sprout seeds for fresh veggie nutrition and some long storage freeze dried corn, fruits, and textured vegetable protein, butter powder, tomato powder, spices. even mashed potato flakes can also add long storage stuff to your basic beans, rice, grits.

We like oatmeal so we got long storage oatmeal and fruit to go in it.

And don't forget salt, sugar, coffee, and your favorite hard liquor. It keeps whereas beer gets nasty if old. A beer making kit and supplies to make a lot might make you something great for trade goods in extreme and chaotic hard times.

After not being able to watch 'American idol', definitely the government. Almost everything else is more or less managable if you are prepared, but except for heading for the hills, I don't have a plan for dealing with government

by far my biggest fear is us going to a cashless society, the gov'ment and big businesses' greatest dream. the power to deny either individuals or areas the ability to survive with a strike of a key. not sure if our gold and silver would serve any purpose if our accounts are marked "cancelled". it will be instituted to "protect us". at this point we become "prison nation".

My biggest fear would be an illness that is beyond me.

I have all the essentials....but the wife or me getting an incurable illness would cause me much angst.
I watch the anthrax and STD's and smallpox news with a raised eyebrow. I'm not particularly "worried" about it at my location, but if it came here, it would devastate me.

I live in the sticks...I like the sticks. I know a lot of people and I know that promiscuity is rampant. Just "one" carrier of gamma-5 or AIDS or whatever could do tremendous damage to a community.

All other concerns are easily dealt with...but not a disease carried by "one of us".

My biggest fear is when I run out of certain prescription drugs. There are worse things than being killed and eaten.

You don't have anything to fear from starving people. Hungry people may be a problem but I wouldn't waste bullets on them, all you need are a few 1lbs pepper spray fog units creatively positioned and either triggered by boobytraps or a from a central control located in a secure part of your house. When hungry people eventually show up to steal what is yours and kill you to atone for their own irresponsibility they will be quickly disuaded when the air around them in no longer breathable. You can also pop smoke so they can't see. Then you can break out a bullhorn and start shouting scary things at them. If its night you can pop off a few parachute flares to further confound their senses. You can even fire a few rubber slugs or rubber pellets out of a shotgun in their general direction. The group psychology will be broken, they will break and run, maybe even turn on eachother. If any persist they should be very easy to pick off your inner fenceline, barbed wire strung between thin poles and spaced fairly widely will be hard to see and clothesline most who try to rush your place.

I'm mostly worried about NBC attacks or just an overwhelming force against which I'm forced to make a fighting retreat and ultimately lose my land.

:D Unfortunately.....this subject could have a dozen different answers.

Looking at it from a personal viewpoint is not the same as the view from the top.

From the top I would have to say no fuel and a complete breakdown of the US monetary system per se.
Even if we didn't get nuked or martial law was declared those two could slam the entire US down to a screeching halt with disasterous implications.
Total chaos beyond the control of present law enforcement and the military.
Quite simply...the citizens outgun all authority and the law of the jungle becomes the only law in town.

On a personal level I would have to say my biggest fear would be the possibility of total mental breakdown of family members who still retain faith in the Empire and have no mental capacity for coping with total meltdown.

Those who have never been exposed to war and real danger do not appreciate how hard it is to function in an actual kill or be killed environment.

Some won't make the grade...they will be among the first casualties of sheep think and media brainwashing.
Getting their brain wrapped around the fact that law as they knew it no longer exists will blow a few fuses resulting in the complete inabilty to function rationally...easier to just do nothing.There is no plan B because they laughed when others were discussing plan A.

Someone has to call the shots...a lot of us here at GIM are Alpha types already,so our survival rates will be quite high vs the general population.

But even so....it is hard to function rationally when the bullets are flying and you are depending on someone to watch your back that has completely spazzed out and lost it.
I have saw the biggest hoo-hah macho types turn into fruit cakes under pressure,losing all perception of reality because their brain quite simply had never faced immenent death before...the wake up call came and they shut down like pulling the plug on a toaster.

Unfortunately next time it might be your wife,son,daughter,father or mother who has to watch your back.If it gets that bad there will be those who go berserk and get lot's of people killed...maybe yourself trying to save them.

There are no good scenarios.....all of them are bad.

My biggest fear is EMP attack. Instantaneous total chaos with no warning! Food preps don't have to be expensive. A couple of 100 lb. bags of rice will keep you and your family alive for a while, and only cost you about 45 FRN.

A. Go out in a "blaze of glory".
(which would leave young children fatherless in a crisis.)
OR
B. Surrendering to buy a lil more time for the above.

I have no problem taking action......but it seems the dire consequences left for others is......

My guess is that they will short SHTF/Revolution the same way they short the market.

A long emergency followed by ear tags and branding of the factions.

My biggest fear would be a big bio incident. Dead bodies laying around and the nastiness of it.

I don't think that will happen but it would be exceptionally Terrible to have to move a decomposing corps that breaks apart. Smelling dead stuff already makes me wretch.

Mentally this would tax Superman.

I received a puppy back because of a contract. I had to fight like crazy to enforce the contract but anyway the bitch chipped my puppy.

The breed club will no longer take your ads for placing puppies with out the parents being chipped.

I'm blessed as I do not need them to place puppies. We have an article coming out in a national magazine about our breed. Our kennel, our puppy and dogs will be the only ones in the article. Plus I know how to advertise. The last litter three puppies went to repeat buyers.

Well anyway I'm about ready to call the breed club and tell them I do not want the mark of the beast in my dogs and you had better run my ad or you will be dealing with my lawyer. He is a big time Christian and I'm sure he would just love this one. Of course I had better pay him for helping us get the new puppy first :-)



Well anyway back on topic. Not having the food to feed all these great dogs in a SHTF situation has worried me. I love them all and normally have lots of food on hand but having this many and if caught short it could be a big problem.

I would buy a place in Canada just for the snow and fishing but I cannot imagine going around without a gun. Then the assholes at the border. Would they let me in to go skiing or fishing after I spent he bucks buying the place.

We are not getting the snow needed for one of my favorite things anymore cross country skiing. Anyone want to buy a cross country skiing resort with no snow? Send me a PM :>)

But would moving there work? I was on the phone last week with a puppy person in Canada she was complaining about the puppy bringing mud in the mansion. She is stinking rich. I asked how come it is not frozen. She states it unbelievably warm for this time of year.

So I could buy the place. Not be allowed to pack a gun and may not be let in and even if I get in there maybe no snow.

So I will not buy a camp in Canada. I'm sure they would let the dogs in. Me, maybe not the way the acted last time I went over.

Biggest fears.
1. Not being able to protect my kids.
2. Running out of food (I'm starting to work on these)
3. Being prepared for me and my kids , but then having to watch other relatives suffer or worse. Family is just way too big for me to to realistically prepare to take care of them all should TSHTF .

yep on your #3. i tell the wifu that when all goes to hell we must be isolated as it is impossible to provide for others over the long term and watching others suffer and die miserably would not be a pleasant option. lotsa space between ourselves and (what is left of) civilization. when financial collapse does occur, i see the most plausible senario being goods only for major urban centers. i think the country will be abandon to a large extent. no gas, no food, no control. i believe that for 2 people, it would only cost about 5k for 5 years of basic food (DON'T FORGET VITAMINS!) and pellets.

The closest major city is 25 miles away, so I'm pretty relaxed these days.

I used to work nights in the downtown area of that city. Security guards are unarmed and make $7.50/hr. Badge swipes fail open in a power outage. Lots of plate glass on the first floor. Would be easy to throw a park bench through the window or door. But my biggest fear was not from an explosion or bio-chem incident. But from the resulting grid lock and chaos. So my biggest concern was being caught up in a riot situation.

I quit that job a few years ago and have no plans to go back to that city any time soon. Whatever the terrorists throw at us will probably have little impact on me, directly.

I'm glad I didn't spend money on a fallout shelter because I'm presently trying to sell my house. People buying into this area have no use for a fallout shelter. It would have been money down the drain. But I might install something in my next home.....

At the moment my biggest concern is the new congress and gun controll....
